Labour’s National Day of Action

On the 29th October, Labour’s National Day of Action, Newham’s Trade Union and Labour Activists will gather to discuss the Labour Party Conference. Labour policy announcements important to the Trade Union movement will be on the agenda along with how we build local Labour strength through shared trade union values.

At a time when employment rates are at an all-time high but hard won employee rights are being decimated, now more than ever we must ensure the Trade Union movement has a voice into politics at all levels. Ensuring grassroots members have forums like this, to discuss and debate policy that affect us, working people, is essential. With Labour in government, turning the tide of anti-union sentiment and union busting measures brought in by the Tories must be number one on the agenda.

The Trade Union movement is the heart of the Labour Party, and as we stand, with real hope for a Labour government soon, this National Day of Action, in Newham, organised by the local GMB political officers, we intend to keep Trade Union values at the heart of our action!

Contributions to this event, in a personal capacity from the following local trade union activists:

Unmesh Desai, Labour London Assembly Member for the City and East as well as GMB Plaistow branch political officer; John Gray, Unison Labour Link Chair and Newham Councillor and Rita Chadha, Community Union activist and member, co-founder of Civil Society for Labour and Newham Councillor. Special guest, local MP, Sir Stephen Timms.

The event will be followed by local doorknocking!
