170 Heathrow catering workers left without jobs after contract dispute

170 workers at Dnata Catering's Heston facility have been left without work after a disputed contract transfer collapsed at the last minute, with most receiving just two weeks' pay.

The workers, including GMB members, were told on 30 April they would transfer to incoming American Airlines catering provider Do&Co under TUPE regulations.

Coaches were arranged for 1 May. After an hour and a half, staff were told the transfer was not happening and to go home.

Around 70 per cent of the workforce are women. Many have over 30 years of service.

With Dnata Catering and Do&Co in dispute over who holds responsibility for the 170 affected staff, workers have been left in limbo.

Perry Phillips, GMB Regional Organiser, said:

"I met these workers outside the factory on the day they lost their jobs. Many were in tears, worried about how they were going to make ends meet for their families.

"These are loyal people, some with decades of service, left on the street while two companies argue over who is responsible for them.

"GMB is calling on Dnata Catering to do the right thing and financially support its workforce until their employment rights are properly upheld."

GMB is supporting affected members and urging both parties to resolve the dispute without further delay.
