GMB welcomes employer’s common-sense approach to negotiations that deliver well-received pay deal

GMB has recently held intense negotiations with Best Food Logistics in Hoddesdon, on behalf of GMB members working to deliver the Pret a Manger contract.

Following a ballot, GMB members have agreed on a pay deal of between 8.01% to 11.36% with additional benefits included in the pay package. The deal means workers in this division of services will be several thousand pounds better off, a welcome increase for our members during this severe period of austerity says GMB London.

GMB, the union for workers in logistics welcomed information from the Management of Best Food who noted that the agreement and pay ballot was well received by Pret A Manger, a company itself that has given its workforce an above-inflation pay increase over the last year. GMB members and representatives have been rightfully rewarded for their part in supporting this fast-food business.

Mick Vearer and Ion Ghiulea, GMB London Region’s lead representatives said:

“We are delighted to see wide acceptance of the pay deal as well as an uplift in allowances for workers. We are pleased to have improved the pay uplift for workers at a time when many are really struggling to pay bills and buy food.”

Steve Garelick, GMB London Region Organiser said.

“A common-sense approach to pay negotiations at a time when so many employers are ignoring the cost of living situation, and more importantly do not acknowledge the importance and value workers give to the success of a business. Union membership is an essential part of employer and workers' toolkits, providing protection and collective bargaining.

“GMB has a proud tradition of as one of Britain’s largest trade unions of delivering.  Members First is a value and commitment that GMB is proud to espouse.”
