Jess Asato MP, Member of Parliament for Lowestoft, has signalled her support for striking Altrad workers at the Shell Bacton Gas Terminal.

The workers – who are members of GMB Union - have been taking part in rolling strikes since 20th October in a row over pay parity.

In a statement released on X, she said she “fully understood why they are seeking fair and equal treatment for the same work carried out across the site.”

She also urged Altrad and Shell to “return to meaningful discussions with GMB representatives to resolve this dispute as quickly and fairly as possible.”

Altrad have yet to return to the negotiating table, prompting GMB to announce further strike dates throughout November and into December.

John Colquhoun, GMB Senior Organiser, said:

“We are very grateful for Jess Asato MP’s intervention, and we hope both Shell and Altrad take her words on board.

“A quick resolution and a fair pay settlement for Altrad employees is in everyone’s best interest.

“Our members will not back down from this fight for equal treatment and they demand pay parity with their colleagues.”
