GMB London Region has today (11 November) reacted to the latest unemployment data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), which shows London has the highest unemployment rate of any UK region at 6.5 per cent.
According to the ONS, unemployment across the labour market has risen to 5%.
“Today’s unemployment figures make the case for bolstering employment rights.
“London has a high proportion of workers in low paid and precarious roles.
“These workers are extremely vulnerable, which is why we need the enhanced worker protections that the Employment Rights Bill will provide.
“Ending practices such as fire and hire and zero hours contracts will guarantee a crucial baseline of security.”
