Alice Macdonald MP, Member of Parliament for Norwich North, has signalled her support for striking Altrad workers at the Shell Bacton Gas Terminal.

The workers – who are members of GMB Union - have been taking part in rolling strikes since 20th October in a row over pay parity.

They receive less than colleagues doing the same work at an adjacent site.

Altrad has yet to return to the negotiating table, prompting GMB to recently issue fresh strike dates that will see industrial action run into December.

Alice Macdonald, Labour and Co-operative MP For Norwich North, said:

“I stand with GMB Altrad workers at Bacton Gas Terminal who have taken the difficult decision to strike after being denied the pay rise set out under the National Agreement for the Engineering Construction Industry.

“These skilled workers play a vital role in our energy infrastructure and deserve fair and equal treatment.

“I urge Altrad and Shell to return to talks and reach a fair resolution as soon as possible.

“Equal pay for equal work is a basic principle and I will continue to support efforts to resolve this dispute constructively.”

John Colquhoun, GMB Senior Organiser, said:

“We would like to thank Alice Macdonald MP for backing our members and their fight for pay parity.

“With two local MPs supporting our members and calling for a fair resolution, it’s time for Altrad to take note and come back to the table with a new offer.”
