Shell Bacton Gas Terminal workers vote to renew strike action

Altrad employees at the Shell Bacton Gas Terminal in Norfolk have voted overwhelmingly to continue their pay-related strike action, which entered its sixth month today [20 March]. 
 
GMB Union, which is representing the members, recorded 100 per cent vote in favour on a 96 per cent turnout. 
 
Altrad employees are currently paid around £1.20 per hour less than workers doing the same jobs at neighbouring terminals. 
 
The vote to continue strike action comes after the workers rejected a pay offer from Altrad, which would have seen them enjoy two weeks of pay parity before being paid on average 71p less an hour than their colleagues from April. 
 
A GMB member working for Altrad said:
 
"When we were transferred to Altrad under TUPE, we were given pay parity.
 
"If that was good enough then, why not now?"
 
John Colquhoun, GMB Senior Organiser, said:
 
"This ballot result shows the strength of feeling among our members, who are furious with how they have been treated.
 
"They refuse to give up and GMB is supporting them every step of the way. 
 
"We are urging Altrad to return to the table with an offer that provides our members with the same pay as their colleagues."
