AI Cameras

AI cameras are a hot topic at the moment which are being Labelled under the remit of health and safety !

Employers need to be made aware of the cons of AI cameras so they can provide our members with the full information when and if talks take place.

Cons to AI Cameras:

  • Higher upfront costs: AI cameras are generally more expensive to purchase than traditional cameras. Which takes away funds from other Health and safety concerns.
  • Privacy concerns: Features like facial recognition and continuous monitoring raise ethical and legal questions about user privacy.
  • Potential for bias: AI systems can exhibit bias if the data they are trained on is biased, potentially leading to discriminatory outcomes.
  • Need for technical expertise: Implementing and maintaining AI systems requires a higher level of technical knowledge and staff training.
  • Over-reliance and skill depreciation: A heavy reliance on AI automation can diminish the creative control of a user and lead to the depreciation of certain technical skills.
  • Security risks: Like any connected technology, AI cameras can be vulnerable to cybersecurity threats.
  • Environmental limitations: Performance can be impacted by environmental factors like extreme weather or complex layout

 Job Displacement

AI-driven automation poses a significant threat to employment. As AI systems become more capable, they can perform tasks that were previously done by humans, leading to job displacement in various sectors.

While AI can create new job opportunities, the transition can be challenging, requiring workers to acquire new skills and adapt to changing job markets. This can lead to economic disruption and increased unemployment, particularly in industries reliant on routine and repetitive tasks.
