Latest bulletin for local government and school workers: NJC 2021/22 Pay Offer

Tuesday 1st March 2022

Dear Member

Further to recent updates, GMB is now able to announce that the 2021/22 NJC pay award of 1.75% will now be paid following all the recognised Trade Unions concluding their respective Ballot processes.

GMB along with Unison has signed off the agreement with the National Employer, but having delivered our ballot in January, it has been frustrating waiting for news from the other unions knowing that any payment made after March will be subject to higher National Insurance costs as a result of the increase due on 1st April.

GMB reps and officers are now pushing for Councils to make the payment in March to ensure members get their back pay as soon as possible.

Now that the current pay round has been concluded GMB will be consulting with members on their pay aspirations for 2022/23. We know that inflation is at a level not seen for thirty years and that is before the additional costs caused by the increase in the energy price cap come into effect. Government and employers need to understand that workers in Local Government and Schools can’t be expected to accept further below-inflation pay awards.

It is not fair to expect Public Sector Workers who have been at the frontline throughout the pandemic to face financial hardship and again carry the Governments' financial burden as they did through austerity.

Please look out for further information from GMB about our campaign for a decent pay rise.

Yours sincerely,

Lisa Bangs, GMB London Region Lead Organiser Schools & Academies
