GMB London Region has secured a win on pay and terms for construction workers at Sizewell C.
11 workers at the site were told they had to be on standby and ready to be called in if needed over the Christmas period.
These workers were told by their employer, HW Martin, that this was not optional and were offered just £30 per day to do so.
GMB negotiated for them to be paid £200 per standby day, to benefit from 'task and finish', and to receive enhanced rates for the bank holidays.
Tony Tanushi, GMB Regional Energy Organiser, said:
“Sizewell C provides an enormous opportunity for job creation in Suffolk.
“GMB is working to ensure those jobs come with the best possible pay and conditions, and deliver for local people.”
Matthew Wright, GMB Regional Organiser, said:
“Our members challenged an unfair situation and with our support, they secured a big win.
“As this result shows, when we stand firm with our members, we can make work better.”
