London NHS workers charged £8.5 million to park at work
An analysis of figures released by the NHS reveal staff working for trusts in London paid more than £8.5 million pounds to use hospital car parks in 2025-26.
The trusts with the highest staff car parking charges were:
- Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust - £1,210,338
- Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust - £1,113,666
- Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust - £1,093,088
GMB Union, which represents thousands of NHS staff members, has long called for staff parking charges to be scrapped.
Donna Thomas, GMB Regional Organiser, said:
"NHS workers are forced to hand over millions of pounds just to turn up to work.
"Before they even arrive to work, many of our members must pay ULEZ and Congestion Charge, only to face more fees to park.
"Our members often work unsociable or unpredictable hours, so have no choice but to travel in by car.
"Our dedicated NHS staff are already underpaid and deserve so much better than to be charged to park at work."
