TfL must support drivers to meet zero emission ambition
GMB Union, which represents thousands of private hire drivers in London, has responded to TfL's ambition for all newly licensed private hire vehicles to be zero-emission within five years.
Matthew Wright, GMB Regional Organiser, said:
"Private hire drivers want to play their part in lowering carbon emissions, and many have already invested in electric vehicles.
"The move to zero-emission vehicles cannot be funded by drivers alone, and they need support from TfL if we are to achieve this ambition.
"This must start with the restoration of the 100% Cleaner Vehicle Discount. TfL's decision to remove it was a negative step, placing a financial burden on drivers who did the right thing and switched to electric.
"We also want to see investment in a more extensive, affordable, and reliable charger network to ensure our members can keep our city moving."
