New plan to improve women's safety in Parliament 'a positive step forward'

GMB Union has welcomed reports that Parliament will receive White Ribbon accreditation and bring in changes to improve women's safety.

GMB is the largest union in Parliament with around 1,500 members and has long called for better protected workplaces across Parliament and constituency offices.

Lisa Gillmore, Senior Parliamentary Researcher and GMB MPs' and Peers' Staff Branch President, said:

“We welcome our national Parliament leading by example and putting a plan in place to make it a safer workplace for women.

“Protecting the many staff who work here must be a key priority for Parliamentary authorities, but there have been failings in the past.

 “These plans to improve behaviour and culture are a positive step forward and can give women working across Parliament confidence that they will be better protected.”
