UK cannot afford not to build Sizewell C, says GMB
GMB Union has reacted to the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee's report on Sizewell C.
Tony Tanushi, GMB Regional Organiser, said:
"The opportunity cost of failing to invest in sustainable, world-class energy infrastructure and the high-skilled jobs it secures domestically, is far greater than the immediate cost of that investment.
"We cannot afford not to build it. The UK cannot achieve net zero or energy independence without nuclear power in the mix.
"As with any large infrastructure project, Sizewell C comes with a degree of risk, and we welcome the Committee's recommendations for robust monitoring and evaluation, and a strong workplace culture.
"We should applaud the ambition that Sizewell C represents for our energy future, as well as the local and national economic benefits the project offers, including jobs, apprenticeships, and skills development."
