Plans to move council jobs out of Enfield 'inexcusable'

GMB Union, which represents hundreds of local government workers in Enfield, has learned that nine outsourced workers will have their jobs moved out of the borough.

The workers, who are employed by NSL to monitor CCTV, will be made redundant as their roles move to either Rochdale or Inverness.

GMB has criticised the decision saying it will take jobs and tax revenue out of Enfield, and lose the local knowledge required for CCTV review.

The union has also accused the council of double standards, pointing out that an inhouse council worker would never expect to see their job relocated to another part of the country.

GMB has written to the council's Chief Executive and political leadership to raise its concerns.

Mary Goodson, GMB Regional Organiser, said:

"We are deeply concerned that nine experienced colleagues are set to lose their jobs.

"It is inexcusable for these jobs and local council tax revenue to be moved out of the borough, and it raises serious questions about where these relocation plans will end.

"This is some of the clearest evidence we've seen to date of a two-tier system, where outsourced workers' terms and conditions are less favourable than inhouse council staff.

"We are urging NSL to reconsider their decision and keep these roles in Enfield, where they belong."
