GMB London Region has reacted to news that Greater London Authority staff have been told their jobs could be at risk.
The union has expressed its disappointment at the possibility of job losses and intends to monitor the situation closely to protect its members.
Warren Kenny, GMB London Regional Secretary, said:
“This redundancy threat is deeply disappointing and, frankly, short-sighted.
“A city of London’s size and importance needs experienced, dedicated staff working in City Hall.
“Budgetary pressures are a reality for local authorities up and down the country, but cutting jobs is not the answer.
“Losing staff in City Hall would risk undermining so many of the programmes that enable our city and its people to thrive.
“More than ever, the mayor must advocate for London - and its role as a huge driver of growth and prosperity – to push for Government funding.”
