GMB Union’s London Region is exploring a potential legal claim against TfL, citing the financial impact of TfL’s licencing delays on dozens of its members.
The union previously criticised TfL’s licensing system as ‘not fit for purpose’.
The delays in processing licence renewal requests caused significant financial hardship for many drivers as they were left unable to work – in some cases for months at a time.
As a result, GMB is examining the viability of bringing a claim for loss of earnings.
Steve Garelick, GMB Regional Organiser, said:
“We understand the severe impact that TfL’s licensing delays have had on our members’ livelihoods.
“TfL has previously acknowledged that some drivers were impacted by system issues.
“However, this public acknowledgement does not address the financial stress they have suffered.
“GMB is committed to exploring every avenue to seek redress for those who have been unfairly affected.”
