Rights are no rights at all if you can't afford to enforce them, says union's general secretary

GMB has hailed a decision in the Supreme Court that tribunal Fees are unlawful.

The Supreme Court today unanimously ruled the Government was acting unlawfully and unconstitutionally when it introduced the fees four years ago. [1]

GMB’s sister trade union UNISON had taken their case to the highest court in the land after judges ruled against them in both lower courts.

The Government could now be forced to stump up £27million in refunds for fees already paid.

Tim Roache, GMB General Secretary, said:

"The Supreme Court decision on employment tribunal fees is a victory for common sense and the basic right of working people to access justice in our legal system.

“Rights are no rights at all if you can't afford to enforce them."
