GMB LONDON WELCOME SECURING FULL SICK PAY AT NHS WEST HERTFORDSHIRE HOSPITALS NHS TRUST.

After weeks of campaigning from GMB, Watford Hospital staff will finally be guaranteed full pay if they get ill on the frontline.

GMB London, the union for cleaners and porters outsourced staff in the NHS, welcome securing confirmation that West Herts NHS Trust governing the Watford General Hospital, has given the full sick pay provision to 400 Mitie employees at sites including Watford General Hospital, St Albans City Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital.

West Herts contract operator Mitie went to West Herts NHS Trust saying they couldn’t afford to pay their staff on the frontline unless the NHS stumped up the cash.

GMB London Region Organiser Hilda Tavolara said:

‘Our members have been working round the clock to protect the public against this deadly virus – it’s brilliant that they have finally been given a guarantee that if they do catch Covid-19, they won’t have to lose pay. We applaud the Trust for showing leadership and ensuring Key Workers are properly supported.’
