Exciting News!

Due to the Soho Central project in your area many new GMB members working in hospitality have joined us and this means you now have the opportunity to open a brand new branch so e-mail sarah.hurley@gmb.org to let us know.

What is a GMB Branch?

GMB Branches consist of members of a geographical area, or sections of industry, or workplace. Each GMB Branch elects its own officers: the Secretary, President, Auditor , Branch Youth Officer and Branch Equality Officer. As a member-led organisation, GMB believes a branch should be run by its members. All branch officers are elected every four years and are volunteers. These individuals are not employed by GMB but work on behalf of GMB and receive training to provide advice and support to those members belonging to their branch.

How to Get More Involved

GMB offers training to members who agree to become a GMB Shop Steward or Health & Safety Representative. These roles are very important to members in a workplace as they offer the correct support needed for our members tackling difficult issues at work. As a new member, if you are interested in this, please contact me direct at sarah.hurley@gmb.org.uk

GMB’S worker Fair Tips Campaign

GMB London Region is running a campaign in your area called GMB’s Worker Fair Tips. You can find out in the additional resources on this page.

Soho Central Project Update & Events

GMB members have been busy spreading the word about the Soho Central project. GMB members have been targeting London Pride, UK Black Pride and the Soho Society’s Summer Fete/Waiters' Race where we had our very own stall reaching out to all the workers while having fun. If you would like to get more active in this campaign you can contact sarah.hurley@gmb.org.uk.

Taking Tips At The Top

GMB London Region took your issues to the top by meeting Amy Lame, London's first Night Czar who is responsible for improving London's night time economy. During the meeting Sarah Hurley explained about the project, the ongoing issues that the workers are suffering with in hospitality including low pay, we also introduced Amy Lame to GMB's business charter which will pave the way to a positive change and brighter future.

GMB has already been involved with the Governments latest consultation on Tips and Service charge and we were live on Soho Radio during the Soho Society Hour Show on 7th September with Westminster Labour Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Labour MP Stella Creasy who fully support our campaign. If you missed the show you can still listen to it via Mixcloud online by entering the show name ‘Soho Society Hour Show’ and date in the search bar.
